While traveling through the market, the party sees a woman chasing a little girl. The woman is yelling at her to come home now. The girl will run up to the party and grab hold of the most "gentile" looking member. The woman will run up fretting over her child and try to pry the girl off. A crowd will be watching by now. The mother apologizes and herds her child away.
The party has the ability at this point to react. Town guards / shop keepers will tell the party that they recognize the woman if asked, and that she is the girls mother. The child herself doesn't speak but will smile if someone looks directly into her eyes. If for some reason, the player decides to check their money pouch immediately, the girl and woman can be caught after a brief chase. The girl has handed the money over to the woman. The woman's sob story is that her husband was an incorrigible gambler and that he lost everything to the games (including his life) and she has no other way to feed herself or her child than steeling or selling her body.
Later, the person grabbed will notice their money pouch is lighter 2d12 coins. Any attempt to find the urchin or her mother will fail as the entire town professes ignorance to their identities.
