History
Once a simple Nabasu demon born into a world dominated by gnolls, he found himself venerated by gnoll tribes. Crocotta gained power quickly through the worship and slaughter of the gnolls, and it took him less than a century to transform into a Vrolikai and be drawn into the abyss. Unknown millennia passed with Crocotta gaining power and fighting other demons for prominence. During this time, he found that he missed the worship of the gnolls and plotted ways of regaining the worship he had lost.
The exact mechanism is unknown, but Crocotta managed to gain access to the material plane and set himself up as the King of the Gnolls. It took untold years of worship and veneration before Crocotta returned to the abyss as a demigod. It was with this new power and knowledge that Crocotta stretched his power across the planar gap to develop worshipers on many worlds.
Relationships
A rival of Kassira, Crocotta hates the mother of gnolls and considers her and her priests as obstacles to his total control of gnolls. There is no love lost between the two deities, and their priests often fight one another to venerate their gods. Crocotta has more followers and a larger priesthood than Kassira so he looks down on her as lesser than him in every way. He is friends with no deity. All good deities hate Crocotta and seek to thwart him.
Appearance
Crocotta appears as a 14 foot tall humanoid with four arms, two bat-like wings, and a long attenuated tail. His body is thin for his size, weighing only 500 pounds. His face is that of a hyena, but the snout is short and stunted.
Servants
Yaenits are Crocotta's preferred servants. These gnoll like demons are his favorite tools and he often sends them to Traykon to enforce his will. The fact that they look like large, thickly built gnolls causes them to be mistaken for gnolls by those who are not observant.
Church Structure
There is no structure to the church of Crocotta. Each sect worships independently. When two sects intersect, the strongest will lead the combined force. The strongest may be determined by battle.
Worshipers
Gnolls worship Crocotta and make up nearly all of his followers. A few goblins or bugbears may worship Crocotta but they are usually solitary practitioners.
Clergy
The clergy of Cocotta is completely made up of Gnolls with the occasional Flind. They tend to wear red dyed furs or leathers.
Temples and shrines
There are no known temples to Crocotta but every sect and solitary practitioner builds a shrine to the god. Often, the shrines will become the center of a village, as the clergy have an important role in gnoll life. Gnolls have been known to build shrines in deserted places that were the site of a large gnoll battle or triumph.
