The ultimate source of magic is much debated and often misunderstood. Many Sages often point to two types of magic and claim they are different sides of the same force. Others dispute the binary definitions given to magic and split magic into other categories. The theory that magic has more than binary categories opens the possibility for multiple sources of magic. Theologians and Sages across the multiverse have offered thousands of theories as to the ultimate source of what we call magic. Some theories though are more commonly accepted than others.

Arcane Magic

Although some beings learn to utilize arcane energies through study and willpower, some are gifted its use by cosmic providence or chance. Usage of magic aside, arcane energies must originate somewhere.

Inherant

This type of magic is believed to be personified in the blood of the various Dragon species. For all practical purposes, the font of arcane magic spills forth from lifeforms that require magic to survive. This innate magic springs forth from the lifeblood of races and comes into being as a natural byproduct of their existence. The magic created by this process flows freely in the universe and can be manipulated by those who learn how to bend these energies to their will.

Reactionary

Movement between and amongst the various planes of the multiverse generates an energy that inundates the planes themselves. Dispersion of this energy is uneven and can explain the reason why some planes have limited or no magic while others are awash in arcane energies. These energy flows generated by the planes create a buffer to keep the planes separate as well as the conduits for planar travel.

Divine

Although most people believe deities are the ultimate source of what is called divine magic, there are entities who can utilize these powers without the consent or even knowledge of a deity. In some realms, divine ascension is attained through varying means and few require the actions or consent of a divine entity.

The Gods

The most obvious source of divine magic is from a deity. Deities are not only the embodiment of divine magic, but they are also the fountain from which the energy appears to flow. Some believe deities gain their power from their worshipers, thus making sentient beings the source of the god's ultimate power. No matter which direction the divine power ultimately flows, the deities have to be considered one of the keys to divine magic.

Life

Even without the factor of beings who call themselves gods, the process of life itself creates an energy which can be tapped and shaped. This energy flows through all things in the multiverse and is considered divine in nature. Most druidic orders utilize this energy and call it many names, some even invent a divine persona for the force.

Wild

Wild magic simply exists as a manipulation of magical forces by means other than those recognized and understood. In many cases, the impetus to create magic effects appears spontaneous and internal to the creature and is not dependent on outside power.

Intrinsic

Much like the divine life energies, sometimes objects or places can generate magical power on their own. The island of Arcadia in Traykon is a great example of this. Due to it's nature of having existed in another plane of existence and the beings that exist on the island, the land itself generates a power that is outside the magical sphere of gods or specific inherited traits. On a smaller scale is the ancestor shrines of some northern tribes. These shrines provide spell like abilities to their worshipers without the benefit of any known source to the magic.

Psychic

The powers of the psychic are thought to begin and exist within the minds of normal mortals. The magical force generated from within these individuals defies other classification as it is independent of outside sources and appears to be powered by a single mortal entity. Psychic forces are rare in Traykon.

Occult

When broken into a seperate category, occult powers are those energies powered by or inherent in a soul. These spirit energies can mimic divine or arcane energies depending on how they are put to use. Occult energies can even be used to augment other powers and as substitutes for required items in divine and arcane rituals. Unlike magical powers which require a patron or inner control, occult energies most often are powered by external foces to the individual channeling them but are not granted by the divine or other life enrgies. Occult powers are only limited by the strength of the soul (or souls) that provide energy.

Creation

From the time of [[The Void] there existed a power that permeated the universe. Once the Void was ruptured by Form, this power took shape and definition. Those we know as Gods came out of the Void but there was another power which helped them shape the nature of existence.

Rune

Rune magic is the language of creation. Each object, thought, and action within creation can be defined with a word or sound which is represented by a rune. The Runes define all that exists or can exist in reality. The nature of runic magic was hidden but kept guarded by one of the elder gods known as Yggdrasil. Few deities knew the existence of the Runes of Creation or suspected their nature. Rune magic is different from all other types of magic because it pulls from the possibilities of creation to alter what is or can be to fit the will of the user. This potentially puts a master Runeweaver on equal footing with a deity in a direct contest of magic. Such is the nature of Rune Magic that almost all deities aware of the force try to obfuscate the source of its power.
